Communications: Creating an Engaged Workplace
In spite of (or perhaps because
of) our increased reliance on mediated communications of all
types, the interest in and demand for face-to-face
communication continues to increase. Employees still want
and need to get their messages from those closest to them -
usually their line supervisor or manager.
At the same
time, organizations have begun to recognize that to be truly
successful they need to move toward full "engagement" of
their employees. That is, to encourage employees to ask "How
can I help?" first, rather than "What's in it for me?"
Using (with
permission) a toolkit developed by Roger D'Aprix and used
extensively throughout North America, Cross Wise
Communications offers a proven research tool to assess the
effectiveness of front-line manager/supervisor communication
skills. The research provides the foundation for training to
increase understanding of the employees' communication needs
and what actions can best meet those needs. Initial training
is followed by practice, and follow up research to assess
progress. |
