Face-to-Face
Communications: Creating an Engaged Workforce
In spite of (or perhaps because of) our increased
reliance on mediated communications of all types, the interest in and
demand for face-to-face communication continues to increase. Employees
still want and need to get messages from those closest to them - usually
their line supervisor or manager.
At the same time, organizations have begun to
recognize that to be truly successful they need to move toward
full "engagement" of their employees. That is, to encourage
employees to first ask, "How can I help?", rather than "What's
in it for me?"
Using (with permission) a toolkit developed by
Roger D'Aprix, Cross Wise Communications utilizes this proven
research tool to assess the effectiveness of front-line
manager/supervisor communication skills.
The results provide the foundation for
training, which will increase understanding of employees'
communication needs and what actions can best meet those needs.
As well,
best practices are shared to provide participants with
a menu of practical tips. Initial training is followed by
practice, then follow-up research to assess progress.
